Every certification will be validated by the issuing company. What if I don’t have my certification document? There is a certification ID # which you can provide if you don’t have the PDF. If you are unable to provide your certification ID #, you will be considered non-certified until you provide it to Jeenie and we validate it. I have CHI-Hub, ALTA, Bridging the Gap, Cross-Cultural Communications, an Interpreter Training Program, etc. Do you accept any of these? Currently, Jeenie only accepts certifications from NBCMI (CMI-Spanish), CHI-Spanish, US State Court, and US Federal Court certifications. These are the certifications that have nationally recognized and comprehensive written and verbal parts of the exam validating your skills as medical and/or legal interpreters. Why is certification more important than years of experience? Certification currently serves as the best way to verify you have the necessary skills and knowledge to qualify you as a medical interpreter. Additionally, certification requires an investment of time and resources on the interpreters’ side and we want to remain cognizant of that as well. Is Jeenie affiliated with NBCMI or CHI? No. Jeenie is not affiliated with either company and does not receive any financial or other compensation from them. What happens if my certification expires? If you don’t provide a new expiration date on your certification, you will revert to the non-certified rate for your language(s). Is there a grace period when my certification expires? It is the interpreter’s responsibility to maintain their certification and ensure the validity does not expire. Expiration guidelines are set by the issuing agency. Becoming Certified Will Jeenie pay for me to become certified? As an independent contractor, it is your responsibility to continue your professional development. Jeenie won’t cover the cost of your certification, but your rate will increase once you are certified. Will you provide the materials/resources I need to get certified? The resources you need are on the specific certification websites. Further research will allow you to determine which certification(s) best fits you. If I get certified after this date, will my rate increase automatically? No. You will need to submit your new documents to BeALinguist@jeenie.com and, once verified by the Jeenie team, your new rate will be applied at the beginning of the next calendar month. Location What qualifies someone as a US-based interpreter? To qualify for US-based rates, all interpreters must have the following information on file. In order for you to keep your status active on Jeenie it’s important to update your residency if it changes. You will need to submit your updated supporting documents to BeALinguist@jeenie.com. I'm a US Citizen but reside outside of the United States. Will this impact my rate? Yes. Your location is based on where you reside, not your citizenship status. If you are unable to provide proof of residency, you will be considered non-US based. Rate What are the new rates? Your new rate will be communicated to you once you have filled out the form and we’ve validated your information. When do the new rates take effect? Your new rate will begin at 12:01 am UTC on June 1st, 2024. Are there any opportunities for performance-based compensation? We are working on introducing such opportunities in the future with incentives that will award time spent on our platform, high customer ratings, etc. Will there be a difference in rates based on the complexity of an assignment? The new rate system is designed to accommodate all the calls that are currently being serviced on our platform. Should this change in the future as we acquire new clients the interpreter per minute rate will be re-evaluated. Is this rate negotiable? The rate can change based on your updated certification or residency status. Do these rates only apply to Healthcare calls? At this time, these rates apply to all call types, regardless of what type of call it is. They are called Healthcare rates because they apply to interpreters who are cleared to take Healthcare calls. Miscellaneous Does my rate influence my call volume? No, your rate doesn’t influence your call volume. Our matching system is not tied to the interpreter rates and we continue striving to distribute calls as fairly as possible. You can increase your chances of getting more calls by staying longer on our platform and answering calls as soon as they ring on your device. Will certified interpreters have priority in the queue over non-certified? No, they won’t. Certification only affects the per-minute rate. Will my rate be backdated if I don’t submit my documents on time? If I send documents late, when will the new rate be effective? Your rate will not be backdated, but we will apply it moving forward. It will begin the day we confirm that we’ve processed your documents. Typically this will be done in 3 - 5 business days. Example: If you send documents on June 3rd, your new rate will be effective the day you receive an email from us stating your profile has been updated. Are there any additional requirements or qualifications needed besides location and certification to qualify for payment? You must complete the Jeenie Performative Assessment with a passing score, as well as complete the Interpreter and Jeenie Skills Modules, to be cleared to take calls on the Jeenie platform. Are my documents stored securely? Your documents remain confidential and secure through the partner platform where they’ve been submitted.
